OBSOLES[S]ENCE

Recharting humanities relationship with technology through the adaptive reuse of the Kelvin Power Station

The thesis aims to transform the symbolism of the power station from that of environmental destruction and the flawed modern technological attitude towards a symbol of innovation and recharted technological attitudes for the future, building off of the errors of the past. This idea is then reinforced when dealing with decommissioned power stations when considering their adaptive reuse as the end of an era of obsolete technology and attitudes birthing a new.

This philosophical and metaphysical experience felt through space can have a real impact on socioeconomic development by stimulating others to experience space beyond its physical presence which ultimately fosters thought. This lasting impact is then taken outside these spaces into the world, where they are shared to bring about transformation. Architecture is ultimately spaces for humanity, and where spaces allow us to connect with ourselves, thoughts, materials, and each other, we connect with our collective essence of being.
